About SAT

About the SAT

The SAT is an entrance exam that gives you the opportunity to show colleges your knowledge and skills.

SAT stands for “Scholastic Aptitude Test,” and it’s a university admission test required by many American schools. Passing the SAT is sometimes a requirement of acceptance to colleges and universities. It’s similar to other college entrance exams in that it tests your knowledge of reading, writing, and mathematics.

The SAT lets you put your best foot forward while applying to college or university. It’s a great opportunity to show off why you deserve a place at the next level.

An SAT score of 1060 is considered average. A good SAT score depends on your academic goals and your dream school.
  • With an SAT score of 1250, you are in the 81st percentile, which is the top 20% of test-takers.
  • You are in the top 10% of test-takers if your score is 1350.
  • Test-takers who score 1400 are in the top 7% of test-takers or the 93rd percentile. The top 1-2% of all test takers score 1500 or above.
  • The perfect score SAT score is 1600.

You can now take the SAT and SAT Subject Tests as many times as you like if the colleges you are applying to only need your highest scores. You can only send colleges the scores you want! Whether or not colleges require you to submit all of your test scores depends on what colleges you are planning to apply to. It is recommended that you take the SAT no more than three times.

This test is commonly taken by juniors (11th graders) during the 2nd semester of their junior year.

It is highly recommended that you complete your SAT by the end of your senior year, probably in October/November.
